Women from every corner of Ephraim Mogal Local Municipality arrived in high spirits at Dichoeung Community Hall for the Department’s Women’s Day Commemoration on 31st August 2026. The atmosphere was buzzing with unity, pride, and celebration as the community gathered to honour the remarkable strength, leadership, and contribution of women across our Province.

The Mayor of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, Cllr Given Moimana, addressed the audience on behalf of MEC Florence Radzilani. He emphasized that women must be at the forefront of driving various sectors of the economy to eradicate poverty and reduce unemployment within our communities. He further called for harsher punishments for perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide to ensure women no longer live in fear. He also urged women to lift each other as they rise and support one another: “As Women’s Month comes to an end, the work to protect, cherish, and elevate women continues every single day”, he said.

The Programme also brought together a powerful panel of stakeholders dedicated to empowering, supporting, and protecting women across Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality. We were honoured to receive messages of support and impactful presentations from the Commission for Gender Equality, advocating for gender parity and rights; LEDA (Limpopo Economic Development Agency), driving investment in women-owned SMMEs; ABSA, Delivering financial tools and support for economic empowerment; the Limpopo Liquor Board addressed women empowerment and social responsibility; Matlala Hospital Clinical Psychology Unit shone a crucial light on mental health and depression, and Ms. Mabotse Mothiba championed the fight and advocating against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

Seshego Stadium was filled with excitement and cheer on Wednesday, 2 nd September 2026, as older persons from all over the Capricorn District converged for the District Golden Games, a collaboration between the Departments of Social Development and Sport, Arts and Culture, aimed at keeping our older persons fit and healthy, and to restore their dignity. Polokwane Municipality and Capricorn District Municipality contributed to the hosting of today’s event during which older persons of ages 60 and above, compete in short and longer distance track items, football, rugby ball throw, ringing the stick, jukskei, duck walk, passing the ball and more interesting and challenging games. The district events will culminate in the Provincial Golden Games during which Team Limpopo will be selected for the National Active Ageing Programme and Golden Games to be held in the Free State in October 2026.

MEC Florence Radzilani on 1 June 2026 handed over 30 new vehicles to DSD staff members in all districts, Head Office, Mavhembe Secure Care Centre and Sekutupu Old Age Home. The vehicles will assist especially social work professionals and community development practitioners to access communities in the delivery of services of the Department.

Women of the Department celebrate Women’s Month with a gathering of fun, relaxation and important presentations influencing their mental and physical health. The theme for the day was “Vintage”, and ladies enjoyed dressing up and getting down on the dance floor.

It does not know race or class. The scourge continues in the Limpopo Province and during this month of all months to celebrate women, the Vhembe District experienced a wave of murders of women. MEC Florence Radzilani visited the families to bring comfort and highlight the importance of continuing the fight to bring and end to GBVF

MEC Florence Radzilani joined the Nsete Primary Cooperative in Ga-Mashashane, Capricorn District, as they gave back to the community. Benefiting from a generous donation by CEO Matthew Ledwaba were vulnerable groups such as older persons, persons with disabilities and children in need of school uniform.
